People Are Buying More Plant-Based Meat, and Less Animal Ones

Data shows that in the United States, sales of plant-based foods outperform conventional animal products for the third year in a row, a sign that American citizens are changing their consumption habits and betting on their health.

“The data tells us unequivocally that we are experiencing a fundamental shift as an ever-growing number of consumers are choosing foods that taste good and boost their health by incorporating plant-based foods into their diet,” says Julie Emmett, Plant-Based Foods Association (PBFA) Senior Director of Retail Partnerships.

In 2020, the total plant-based market value reached $7 billion – with $1.4 billion in plant-based meat only, a 45% increase from 2019 with $962 million. According to PBFA and The Good Food Institute, a whopping 57% of American households purchase plant-based foods.
