Society GhanaPoverty Falls as Hundreds of Thousands Gain Better Living Conditions
Ghana has reduced multidimensional poverty to 21.9% in 2025, with nearly one million people moving out of deprivation as access to services and living standards improved.
“Improving access to basic services is helping households achieve better living conditions,” said Ghana Statistical Service officials.
More than 950,000 people exited multidimensional poverty between the third quarter of 2024 and the third quarter of 2025, including over 360,000 within a single quarter, reflecting gains in health, housing and education. Health gaps account for 40.9% of poverty drivers, and living conditions account for 33.8%. By contrast, households with tertiary education have poverty rates of 5.7%, compared with 38.5% among those without formal schooling, highlighting the role of education and employment in sustaining long-term progress.
