Power to All: Electricity Plans Surpass Expectations

Mozambique is racing toward universal energy access, with electrification surging across homes, schools, and businesses.

“We connected more households than planned and touched lives nationwide,” says the World Bank in its project update.

Between 2018 and 2024, electricity access in Mozambique jumped from 31% to 60%, bringing power to an additional 9.5 million people. The ProEnergia project alone connected over 514,000 households, electrified 400 public facilities, and supported 1,860 businesses. It also created around 1,800 jobs and distributed 50,000 “ready boards” to assist vulnerable families. As transmission lines expanded and off-grid options scaled up, the groundwork was laid for reaching full access by 2030, lighting up education, healthcare, and opportunity across the nation.
