No More Pets from Cruel Breeding Farms in This State

The state of New York, United States, passed a bill banning puppy mills, thus putting an end to the cruelty and the mistreatment pets are afflicted with from commercial-scale quick breeding operations.

“As Senate Majority Leader, I have emphasized the importance of animal welfare and how it reflects who we are as a society. This comprehensive package is a necessary step in combating the mistreatment, neglect, and abuse of domestic animals,” says Senate Majority Leader and President Pro Tempore Andrea Stewart-Cousins. “These bills also promote the proper care and consideration that animals deserve.”

Through this new bill, puppy mill animals – dogs, cats and rabbits – can’t no longer be sold in pet stores. Pet supplies and other small animals such as fish can still be available in pet stores, and only homeless dogs can be on display, but for the sole purpose of promoting adoption. Furthermore, animal cruelty is also more intricately defined, with severer punishment against physical pain inflicted to animals.
