Renewable Energy off to a Great Start This Year

The United States has seen substantial growth in renewable energies in the first two months of 2022, surpassing other polluting energy sources, and that surge of clean energy sources within the global power grid is likely to accelerate in the coming years.

“The Federal Regulatory Commission (FERC)’s and the US Energy Information Administration (EIA)’s latest data once again confirm the remarkable growth of solar and wind that heralds the accelerating transition away from fossil fuels and nuclear power,” says Ken Bossong, Executive Director of the SUN DAY Campaign. “And with each passing month, renewables are outpacing those agencies’ forecasts.”

A whopping 96.3% of the country’s electrical generating capacity in January and February 2022 came from solar, wind, and other renewable energy sources. And in the first two months of 2022 – in comparison with the same period last year – wind and solar electricity generation increased by more than a third: solar-generated electricity grew by 35.6%, and wind by 33.2%.
