Renewables in Europe: Many Countries Breaking Records

Many European countries are breaking green energy records, with wind and solar accounting for an increasing portion of all electricity generation, thanks to solid growth and consistent performance from both renewable energy sources.

“As Europe emerges from a crisis winter, strong growth of wind and solar are paying dividends,” says Ember analyst Nicolas Fulghum. “This spring, renewables are already lessening the impact of droughts and high electricity prices across the European Union, as well as lowering emissions. The lightning pace of deployment, especially of solar, promises many more records to come this summer.”

April 2023 was a record-breaking month, with Spain, Finland, and Belgium hitting all-time highs – 46% for the former and 29% for the two others – of electricity generated from wind and solar power. As for Sweden, the Scandinavian country broke its record high level of green electricity generation in February, with 27% coming from wind and solar energy sources.
