Rice Harvest Prices Reach Record Low

Rice prices are dropping to their lowest point in nearly two decades, suggesting that despite climate challenges, the world still has a strong chance of avoiding widespread food shortages.

Global rice harvests are projected to hit a record 541 million tonnes in 2025-26, the highest ever.

This bumper harvest is helping push rice prices down to levels unseen since the mid-2000s. Even with fewer farmers and climate pressures, yields are holding strong thanks to improved seed varieties, better irrigation, and supportive trade policies. With rice forming a staple for billions, this surge in production offers hope that food security can improve even in regions facing climate risk.
