Women Are Now Team Members at World’s Most Important Mosques

A growing number of Saudi women have become part of the country’s male-dominated workforce, and the two Holy Mosques in Mecca and Medina have joined in the landmark movement, appointing 10 women to senior leadership positions.

The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques said that the appointment of female leaders was directed by its chief Sheikh Dr. Abdul Rahman Al Sudais “in an effort to raise the level of work in the presidency and to invest in qualified national cadres.”

The women have been hired across various departments at the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques as well as the King Abdulaziz Complex for the Kiswa of the Holy Kaaba, the Gallery of the Two Holy Mosques’ Architecture, and the libraries of the Two Holy Mosques. The addition of women aged 15 to 34 to Saudi Arabia’s workforce has helped drop the nation’s youth unemployment rate over the past four years.
