Scientists Just Found a Way to Send a Message Through a Wormhole

Scientists recently announced that they forged two minuscule simulated black holes using a quantum computer – and even successfully transmitted a message between them, through what they called a “baby wormhole”.

“… In the end, we’re in experimental science, and we’ve been struggling now for a very long time to find a way to explore these ideas in a laboratory. And that’s what’s really exciting about this. It’s not just, ‘Well, wormholes are cool.’ This is a way to actually look at these very fundamental problems of our universe in a laboratory setting,” explains physicist and study co-author Joseph Lykken.

A wormhole is a rupture in space and time and is considered to be a bridge between two remote regions of the universe. The researchers confirmed that in fact, no rupture of space or time happened in physical space during the experiment – rather than a traversable wormhole appeared based on quantum information and codes. Scientists refer to such wormholes as “Einstein-Rosen bridges” after the two physicists who described them – Albert Einstein and Nathan Rosen.
