Scientists now estimate that a large majority of people worldwide have some sort of immunity against SARS-CoV-2.
Scientists at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation estimated that over 97 percent of people worldwide had some level of immunity against Covid-19 by December 2022. Said immunity stems from either previously having the infection or thanks to the fastest, most successful vaccination campaign in history.
Though the fight against Covid-19 is certainly not over, the latest research suggests that the worst days of the pandemic are already behind us. Either by previously contracting the virus, being vaccinated, or both, the majority of people worldwide now have the upper hand against the deadly virus.
