Technology Spain“The Goal Is to Help People”: New Invention Turns Thin Air into Water
A company based in Sevilla, Spain, managed to invent the machine that successfully extracts water from the air, thus providing a most welcome drinking apparatus for people living in the aridest regions of the world.
“The goal is to help people,” says Enrique Veiga, engineer and owner of Aquaer, the company that produces the device. “Our idea is not only to make a device that is effective, but also to make it useful for people who have to walk for miles to fetch water or make wells.”
By cooling the air to the point of condensation – like in air conditioning units – water can be collected. A small machine can produce 50 to 75 liters of water a day, and a big one, up to 5,000 liters, and this technology can work in temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius and in humidity as low as 10 to 15%. The company is already at work in Namibia and a Lebanese refugee camp where it delivers clean water to communities.
