Environment EgyptStartup Turns 5 Million – Going on 5 Billion! – Plastic Bags Into Tiles
A startup wants to turn over 5 billion plastic bags into tiles stronger than cement.
“So far, we have recycled more than 5 million plastic bags, but this is just the beginning. We aim that by 2025, we will have recycled more than 5 billion plastic bags,” says co-founder of TileGreen, Khaled Raafat.
The startup, based in Cairo, Egypt, melts plastic waste down into tiles and then sells them to real estate developers or contracting companies for use in outdoor paving. Egypt is considered one of the most polluting countries in the Mediterranean region; thankfully, this creative startup will help prevent tons of waste from entering the Mediterranean Sea and decrease emissions within the construction industry.
