New Lightweight Turbine Powers 10,000 Homes – Using Carbon Dioxide!

A sustainable turbine weighing 68kg and developed by GE Global Research can produce energy for an entire small town using carbon dioxide.

“This compact machine will allow us to do amazing things,” says Doug Hofer, steam turbine specialist at GE Global Research. “The world is seeking cleaner and more efficient ways to generate power. The concepts we are exploring with this machine are helping us address both.”

The prototype produced 10,000 kilowatts but the plan for the GE Global Research team is to upgrade the technology to at least 500 megawatts, producing enough energy for a large city.
