These Large Mammals Need Attention, so There’s Now a Live Map That Follows Them!

Up-to-date and downloadable maps are available to follow the migration routes of ungulates, including the iconic Serengeti wildebeest and African elephant, to improve conservation planning, infrastructure development, and policy making.

The maps show where critical migration routes cross paths with linear barriers such as roads and railways, representing the best available science for migrations still in existence.

Driven by tracking data on the migration of ungulates — primarily large herbivorous mammals with hooves — this living and ever-updated atlas consists of a repository of detailed maps of high-, medium-, and low-use migration corridors for various species. All maps are downloadable and come with a factsheet describing the migration in detail, the data analysis, and its specific threats.
