In Mozambique, nearly 3 million girls aged 12–18 have now received the HPV vaccine across all 11 provinces, marking a major step forward in cervical cancer prevention.
“This vaccine reflects our commitment to the health of our girls, so that none are left behind,” said UNICEF’s Mary Louise Eagleton, as the nationwide rollout reached 95% of its target and expanded access to this life-saving protection.
With cervical cancer claiming the lives of an estimated 4,000 Mozambican women each year, the one-dose HPV vaccine offers strong, long-term protection against the leading cause of this preventable disease. The milestone builds on Mozambique’s 2019 introduction of HPV vaccination. It reflects sustained collaboration between national authorities, Gavi, WHO, and UNICEF to protect future generations and ease the burden on families and the health system.
