Global Leaders Take Action with New Initiatives to Fight Climate Crisis

Government and private sector leaders are taking major steps towards fighting climate change, as revealed with the announcements of new initiatives at the United Nations Climate Action Summit.

77 countries, joined by many of the world’s largest, have committed to net zero carbon emissions by 2050, and 100 business leaders presented plans to accelerate the transition to a green economy, pursuant to the goals of the Paris Agreement.

Small Island Developing States, Least Developed Countries, and many other smaller countries who have contributed least to the problem, are among those who made the biggest pledges.

“You have delivered a boost in momentum, cooperation and ambition. But we have a long way to go,” says UN Secretary-General António Guterres. “We need all financial institutions, public and private, to choose, once and for all, the green economy.”
