Society USATask Force Founded to Protect Native American Women and Children from Crimes
In the United States, Native American women and girls have experienced violence in outrageous rates. Calling their situation “heartbreaking”, President Donald Trump has stepped up and launched a task force to help protect indigenous women and children.
According to the White House, women in some indigenous communities are 10 times more likely to be murdered, in comparison to the average American. The National Institute of Justice has also found more than four out of five American Indian and Alaska Native women have experienced violence.
The Operation Lady Justice initiative is addressing these issues with a task force aimed at better responding to cases of missing and murdered indigenous women and children.
Also, last week, the government announced a strategy to spend $1.5 million for law enforcement in order to fight harder and better coordinate missing persons cases for Native Americans.
