Utopia for Twibber: No Cars on Streets, Wild Plants, Tiny Houses

During a recent travel to Freiburg in Germany near the French border, I discovered an urban quarter, which we could call a utopia. Or, a dream of ecological and harmonious cohabitation.

In Vauban mayors, citizens and companies have been working together for twenty years to establish a quarter for about 6000 inhabitants where it is nice to live and to grow up.

There are for example natural gardens without pesticides, there are streets without cars and there is wild vegetation at many places. There are neighborhood projects to share cars – many of the residents don’t drive their own car. Just now Vauban started a new project to build Tiny Houses with mostly natural materials to create intercultural meeting places for the community. The project involves working with people with mental health disabilities.  I was truly amazed by this urban project where so-called post-hippies co-exist in style and build at the same time an ecological, tolerant and sustainable form of living.
