From Food to Fashion, Vegan Products Gain Popularity and Give Us More Choices

Climate-conscious consumers are making a significant impact across many industries, leading airlines, cosmetic companies, food chains and clothing stores – to name a few – to think vegan.

The 25th annual World Vegan Month began on November 1st, with Britain overtaking Germany in launching the highest number of new vegan food products in a year, according to market research firm Mintel.

But the efforts don’t stop there. Agricultural firms across the United States are investing in fake meat, airlines are adding vegan menus, and clothing brands are introducing vegan lines. Companies worldwide are making massive changes, with McDonald’s introducing meatless burgers in Canada, Los Angeles running the first Vegan Fashion Week in the United States, Pizza Hut offering vegan cheese in Australia, and Swedish retailer H&M offering vegan lines.

Zak Weston, food service analyst at U.S.-based non-profit The Good Food Institute, explains, “Consumers are starting to realize that the kind of dirty supply chain of industrialized animal agriculture isn’t something they want to support. As more and more consumers realize that, they’re starting to make choices … which reflect that new-found motivation to do good in the world.”
