More Women Are Working in This Country Than Ever Before

Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 program aimed to have Saudi women account for 30% of the country’s workforce by 2030 – instead, that goal was achieved a whole decade early!

It appears that the many reforms Saudi Arabia has undergone to help women enter the labor market over the last few years are paying off. Women are now allowed to drive cars, meaning that they can commute on their own for work, and changes have been made to the guardianship law, the labor law, and the family law in favor of women.

From late 2018 to late 2020, the participation rate of Saudi women of all ages in the labor force went from 20% to 33% – a 64% expansion in those two short years. The women’s employment rate has largely increased in the government’s hiring of women and the private sector.
