World Leaders Pledge Billions to Support Global Refugees

More than 40 world leaders pledged $10.1 billion in new grants and loans, to provide humanitarian aid and support for global refugees during the Stand Up for Ukraine campaign held in Warsaw, Poland.

Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, it is now estimated that there are 13 million people within Ukraine in need of urgent assistance and around 82 million displaced persons worldwide. Leaders from around the world, including Germany, Qatar, Switzerland, and Slovakia, pledged their support for such people.

“We will continue our support, our solidarity, and our help in these moments when we are standing by Ukraine and the Ukrainians,” says the Prime Minister of Croatia, Andrej Plenković — a sentiment that is shared by numerous other world leaders.

During the social media rally #StandUpForUkraine that took place prior to the pledging event, artists, actors, creators, musicians, and citizens of the world banded together to urge world leaders to support those who have had to flee their homes in Ukraine as well as around the world. The collective action and unity that was provoked via this call to action will indeed provide humanitarian aid to refugees from all around the world as it helped fill the UN Refugee Agency’s $10 billion funding gap.
