EnvironmentTechnology GermanyWorld’s Tallest Wind Turbine Promises to Double Energy Output
The world’s tallest wind turbine has reached its full height of 365 metres in Germany, potentially doubling electricity generation by harnessing stronger, more consistent winds at higher altitudes.
“What was long a challenging idea and then an equally challenging construction project now stands as a globally unique facility,” says Jochen Großmann, founder and CEO of GICON.
Built in Schipkau, the pilot turbine has a 3.8-megawatt capacity, with future models expected to exceed 7 megawatts. Scheduled for commissioning in November 2026, the innovative design uses a telescoping tower to reach a rotor hub height of 300 metres. Up to 4,000 such turbines could be installed above existing wind farms nationwide, increasing renewable electricity generation without requiring additional wind farm land. Its projected energy gains still need to be verified during operation.
