He Could Well Have Been the King of Bavaria, Now He Educates Nomades in Africa

Recently I met a gentleman with a high nobility lineage – and an impressive personal story. Prince Ludwig of Bavaria, 37, spends ten months per year living as a development aid worker in a small tent in the Kenyan region of Turkana.

The IT entrepreneur who was raised in a castle near Munich is the great-great-grandson of legendary King Ludwig II. And he could have even become a king himself, if the monarchy in Bavaria were to still exist.

But the heart of the blue-blooded belongs to Africa where he has already worked for water supply, school constructions etc. In Turkana, in remote north-western Kenya with poor infrastructure, he now educates young nomads to become digital experts. Many of his students can already work as freelance software engineers or web designers for international IT-platforms. While the initiative is financed by donations and fundraising, the Prince doesn’t pay himself a salary. He is also modest when it comes to his noble family name: Locals just call him “Mr. Ludwig”.
