Twibber’s Family is Large Enough to Build a School for Their Home Village

I was born in a small village in Togo, Africa, and as a child, I had to walk five kilometers to school every day. Now living in Germany, I went back to Togo on vacation a couple of years ago.

There, I met some family members in Lomé, the country’s capital, and we asked each other: Why not build a school in a village to make life easier for children? My family is very large, and we decided to start this project by collecting money only among ourselves.

About two dozen cousins living in Europe and the U.S. joined us on the initiative. Some could only send three Euros per month, while others raised a few thousand. Together, we managed to build a primary school and a college in the village of Toulassi Kondji in southern Togo. Today, there are eight classes with about 30 students per class. We plan to finance three more classes to get the students ready for university admission. Though the State now supports our mission, we still keep collecting money privately – as a strong family.
