Tourists in Germany Like New Homes for Mice

Traveling with the family this summer in Germany we noticed, that fields with crops often had flowers at the edges, often sunflowers, but also a lot of times a mix of wild flowers.

We got curious and asked around: people told us these were planted by the farmers as part of the initiative “Blühende Rahmen” or “Blooming Frames”.

When they seed their fields, they spare the edges and seed wild plants or sunflowers and also not mow these areas in the season. So now habitats are created for butterflies, bees and other insects as well as small mammals.

And: it looks so beautiful! I hope this is a good example for farmers around the world.
