Animals PolandHistoric Ban Ends Fur Farming by 2033
In Poland, a new law will phase out fur farming by 2033, ending the killing of around 3 million animals each year and offering payouts for farms that close early.
“This is a breakthrough for millions of animals and a relief for nearby communities long affected by fur farms,” said Anna Iżyńska-Tymoniuk, spokesperson for a leading animal-protection group.
The law passed with 339 votes across party lines, increasing severance pay for workers to a full year’s salary. With over 20 European countries already banning the practice, the measure accelerates the decline of an industry that has shrunk from 810 farms in 2015 to 209 in 2024 — a decisive move toward a Fur-Free Europe.
