Technology ChinaUltra-Fast Charging Breakthrough Could Transform Electric Driving
China has unveiled a next-generation electric vehicle battery and charging system that can deliver hundreds of kilometres of range in just five minutes.
“The industry needs to address slow charging speeds if more consumers are to commit to electric mobility,” said Wang Chuanfu, Chairman and President of BYD.
The new Blade Battery 2.0, paired with 1,500kW chargers, can recharge vehicles from 10% to 70% in about 5 minutes and to 97% in under 10 minutes. The system also enables driving ranges of over 1,000 km and maintains performance even at -30°C. More than 4,000 ultra-fast charging stations are already installed, with plans to expand to 20,000, helping support the wider adoption of electric vehicles by making charging speeds comparable to refuelling.
