Everyday Products Move Closer to a Cruelty-Free Future

The European Union has agreed to ban animal testing for detergents and cleaning products, advancing ethical science while maintaining safety for people and the environment.

“This latest development is more than just a regulatory update; it’s a vote of confidence in non-animal approaches that are better suited to protecting people and the environment,” the article states.

Under the revised rules, effective from 2029, only validated non-animal methods will be permitted to assess product safety, replacing practices that historically subjected millions of animals to harmful testing. Detergents and surfactants, widely used in daily life, will now rely on modern scientific approaches that often provide more accurate results for human health. The move aligns with broader efforts to modernise chemical regulation, reflects strong public support across Europe, and positions the EU as a global leader in advancing humane and innovative safety standards.
