Society AfricaA Brigher Future: Plans for 300 Million More People to Access Electricity
An ambitious initiative is taking off in Sub-Saharan Africa, expecting to provide 300 million more people with electricity access by 2030.
Energy access will help drive further economic opportunities, boost job creation, and improve education and health services, among others.
The project, coined Mission 300, has garnered widespread support, with the World Bank Group and the African Development Bank committed to financing the initiative. Currently, an estimated 600 million people across the African continent lack access to electricity. Should Mission 300 be successful, the number of people without electricity in Africa will halve in just over five years.
