A Silent Weapon on Wheels Against Poaching

An electric bike company based in Sweden is offering off-road electric motorbikes to a South African conservation-training institution so that antipoaching patrollers can better protect a million acres of land, and consequently, species like cheetahs, lions, and elephants.

The Southern African Wildlife College based near Kruger National Park in South Africa recently reported that “a handful of poaching attempts have been stopped” because of the Swedish electric motorbike. The Kalk AP – which stands for Anti Poaching – is Cake‘s back-country model “engineered and tuned toward Africa” which the company sent through its pilot program.

The electric bike is almost completely silent when moving slowly, an advantage when field rangers want to sneak up on poachers. On top of being quiet, the Kalk AP is designed to withstand arid conditions, has off-road tires, a low maintenance suspension, and enhanced durability. Reaching a maximum speed of 72 km per hour, Cake bikes are solar-powered so their batteries can be charged anywhere.
