Society AustraliaSpecial Supermarket Hour for the Elderly and Disabled to Shop in Peace
Supermarkets in Australia are opening their doors early exclusively for the elderly and those with disabilities, to help them find what they need in peace during the novel coronavirus outbreak.
“I was here yesterday, middle of the day, and it felt kind of frantic,” says a customer in the supermarket chain Woolworths. “Yesterday seeing the meat and the chicken not there, I thought, hmm, maybe I should’ve been a little more careful. Now, today, there was plenty of food on the shelves.”
The supermarket chains, including Coles and Woolworths, have launched their measures to give older shoppers and those with disabilities an hour ahead of the rest of the population to shop without worrying about other panic buying and emptying store shelves before they get to them.
