Get a New License Plate If Your Car Doesn’t Pest the Air

As part of Britain’s plan to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, the nation’s transport secretary has announced the upcoming launch of green plates for zero-emission vehicles, to make it easier for electric car drivers to access incentives.

“A green recovery is key to helping us achieve our net-zero carbon commitments while also promoting economic growth,” says Transport Secretary Grant Shapps, adding that the initiative would encourage the use of cleaner vehicles and show that  “a greener transport future is within our grasp”.

The new registration plates, available later this year, will include a bright green stripe that can help authorities identify zero-emission cars. This would give drivers easier access to cheaper parking, exemptions from emissions charges, and other incentives awarded for opting for green transport.
