Van Gogh’s Sunflowers and More from the Comfort of Your Car

A warehouse in Toronto is welcoming art lovers to drive into its 4,000-square-foot space for an immersive show involving Vincent van Gogh’s works of art – all the while maintaining COVID-19 social distancing measures, of course!

The sound-and-light installation, called “Immersive van Gogh”, was intended to launch this month in the five-story Toronto Star building, according to NOW magazine, before it got postponed due to the coronavirus safety regulations. But despite the trying times, the organizers found a way to keep art enthusiasts fulfilled by launching a drive-in “preview” at the warehouse instead.

“It’s not that you just walk in and see the display of his paintings. That, you can see in a museum,” says co-producer Svetlana Dvoretsky to CBC News. “What our artists have done with this exhibit is they take you inside the painting. … They’re trying to show us their version of how the story is born in the mind of the genius.”

The drive-in art show, “Gogh in Your Car”, will run from June 18 to 28, allowing 14 vehicles at a time to enjoy the 35-minute show about the Impressionist painter, using his famous “Sunflowers” and other paintings. Tickets include a free entry to the physical exhibition, now expected to take place between July and September.
