Cleaner Energy, Safer Lives: The Impact of Environmental Policies

A recently published report reveals that environmental policies adopted by the current administration will save hundreds of thousands of lives by the end of the decade and create countless clean energy jobs across the United States.

“The Environment Protection Agency’s accomplishments have been nothing short of lifesaving over the last four years,” states Jeremy Symons, a former climate policy adviser at the EPA and a co-author of the report. “These are real people who wouldn’t be alive if not for the non-partisan work of the EPA to start doing its job again after the last administration.”

The first full year of the Inflation Reduction Act saw the addition of 150,000 clean energy jobs – some 3.5 million people work in these fields – with clean energy jobs growing by 4.5% last year, accounting for one in 16 new jobs nationally. Jobs in energy efficiency lead the way, followed by employment in renewable energy, electric car manufacturing, and battery and electric grid upgrades. By 2030, these environmental policies will save 200,000 lives and prevent over 100 million asthma attacks 2050.
