Companies Hire More and More Women Leaders

A growing number of British companies now have at least one woman on their board, a positive outlook on female leadership positions in the Western world.

“The lack of women in the boardroom is where it all started a decade ago, and it’s the area where we have seen the greatest progress. But now we need to achieve the same, if not more, gains for women in leadership,” says Denise Wilson, CEO of the Hampton-Alexander Review.

As of 2021, 220 companies saw women occupy at least one-third of board positions, a fourfold increase from 2015. Also in 2015, there were still 116 boards with only one woman; today, that number’s gone down to 16. The UK Investment Association now intends to add pressure on companies to additionally improve ethnic diversity at the board level.
