Health The WorldCOVID-19 Pandemic: the Light at the End of the Tunnel
Should the strong policies and measures proposed by the World Health Organization be taken by governments around the world, the coronavirus pandemic could soon be eradicated, as could future pathogens with pandemic potential.
“We have never been in a better position to end the pandemic”, states UN health agency’s Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. “We can end this pandemic together, but only if all countries, manufacturers, communities, and individuals step up and seize this opportunity.”
Six short policy briefs – which are available online – have been released for governments to adopt in order to “finish the race”, including recommendations regarding vaccination, continued testing and sequencing of the SARS-CoV2 virus, and the implementation of effective treatment. They have been elaborated following the evidence and experience gathered during the last 32 months to better save lives, protect health systems, avoid social and economic disruptions, and plan for future surges.
