Society USACorona: Disneyland Closes Gates – but Food Will Not Be Lost
After the new coronavirus led Disney to shut down its parks, Disneyland Resort in California, U.S. announced its plans to donate all its excess food while the park is closed.
“The Disneyland Resort has an ongoing commitment to reducing food waste,” says External Communications Manager of Disneyland Resort Kyleigh Johnson in a blog post, adding that excess food will be donated to Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County while Disneyland park and Disney California Adventure park remain closed.
In a mission to end food insecurity in Orange County, the company expects to donate packaged goods and banquet meals as well as dairy, fruit and vegetables. Last year, according to Johnson, the resort donated more than 20,000 meals to the Orange County food bank.
