Big Sneaker Brands Want Eco-Friendly Shoes to Be Stylish

The carbon footprint of each traditional pair of sneakers is equivalent burning a gallon and a half of gasoline. But the shoe-manufacturing industry has been working hard the past few years to create eco-friendly alternatives that make us both look and feel good!

To help us have a head-start on where to look, Fast Company has gathered together thirteen of those green shoes along with brining up some of the brands’ plans towards becoming more eco-conscious.

Among them is Adidas, and its aim to end all plastic waste within the company over the next decade. This mission began five years ago when Adidas’s began its collaboration with environmental organization Parley for the Oceans five years ago – they have since created several shoes and clothes made out of recycled plastic from the ocean.

Some other eco-friendly options the website suggests includes Toms’ 100% vegan sneakers, Reebok’s basket-woven sneakers made from cotton, corn and castor bean oil, Allbird’s shoes made of eucalyptus fiber, and Rothy’s sensible flats and sneakers made from recycled plastic. Fast Company also highlights the Plant Shoe by Native Shoes, made of pineapple husk, olive oil, corn and cotton that can start to break down after merely 45 days in a compost bin.
