“The End Is Near for This Disease in Our Country,” Says the Ministry of Health

Following concerted efforts from the Egyptian authorities to eradicate Hepatitis C on its territory, the risk to catch the virus went from 7% in 2018 to only 2% in 2021.

As part of the government’s initiative to eradicate Hepatitis C and to detect as early as possible noncommunicable diseases, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi called for the examination of 70 million citizens older than 18, and the distribution of free treatment to 2 million Egyptians.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Health stresses that the government’s efforts paid off, and the country is closer to obtain its international certification declaring that the virus has been eradicated within its borders.
