Environment United StatesEV Charging Stations Outnumber Gas Nozzles Here
Finding an electric vehicle charger is easier than finding a gas pump in California.
The Golden State has reached a major milestone in its transition toward a greener future: there are now about 178,549 public electric vehicle chargers available, while gas pumps only stand at about 120,000. In other words, EV charging stations are 48 percent more accessible than traditional gas pumps.
Since 2022, the state has nearly doubled its available electric vehicle chargers. The report also estimates that, in addition to public-use chargers, there are over 700,000 private-use EV chargers in the state. California has the largest fleet of electric vehicles of any U.S. state, with nearly 30 per cent of all “zero-emission vehicles” calling the Golden State home. Though the state is setting the bar high for EV charging access, it has already committed additional funding to install more fast charging stations. “We’re embracing our clean car future and providing consumers more choices – no matter what ‘big government’ mandates come out of Washington,” says Governor Gavin Newsom.
