New York Fashion Week is going fur-free, ending the promotion of animal fur across its official schedule and channels starting in September 2026.
“Action matters more than talking about it,” said Steven Kolb, CEO and President of the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
The policy covers official Fashion Week events, its calendar, website and social media, while 10 emerging designers in this year’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund are being challenged to create looks using innovative bio-based materials. The move means three of the world’s four major fashion weeks — New York, London and Milan — now have policies excluding the promotion of animal fur. London stopped promoting fur in 2023 and later banned wild-animal skins such as crocodile and python, while Milan has also committed to removing fur from its official events, encouraging wider adoption of animal-free materials and new approaches to luxury fashion.
