SocietyGangsters in Lockdown: Less Crimes All Around the World
The corona lockdowns make criminals stay at home, too: the numbers of major crimes are dropping all around the globe, with less murders, robberies, burglary and rapes.
Some examples (always compared to the year before) as reported by Time.com: in South Africa, serious assault cases dropped from 2,673 to 456 during the first week of lockdown. New York had a 12% decline of serious crimes from February to March. The third week of March saw 30% less crimes in Los Angeles. In Peru, crime levels fell by 84%.
“Killings are down, and the gangsters aren’t harassing so much,” says construction worker Eduardo Perdomo to Time. “I think they are afraid of catching the virus.”
