Europe Improves Transport for Everyone

Germany is the latest European country to join the fight for greener, cleaner, and more inclusive transport, considerate of people of all genders and including those with disabilities or who can’t afford cars.

“We need to find an inclusive and universal approach,” says Janina Albrecht, a local mobility designer based in Offenbach, Germany. “We need inclusive, gender-sensitive and barrier-free places.”

Across Europe, major cities are making adjustments to discourage car traffic in favor of pedestrians and cyclists. Paris wants to make sure that its residents have access to all necessities within 15 minutes by foot, by bike, or by public transit. In Barcelona, car traffic is restricted to only major roads, and in Vienna, public transport will be available for 3€ ($3.60) a day. Germany’s Green party is set to play a role in the next government to be elected later this year, and one of its goals is to revise the country’s transport infrastructure.
