Good News: Asylum Seekers Will No Longer Be “Sent Back Home”

The United States has adopted a new migration policy that will no longer send back asylum seekers from South and Central America, ending the practice imposed by the previous government.

The “Remain in Mexico” policy – where asylum seekers were sent back to Mexico until their asylum procedure is clarified – is set to be annulled “quickly and with due process,” explains the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

As part of the decree, the construction of the wall between America and Mexico has been stopped, a working group has been created to reunite separated families, and the ban on people from Muslim countries entering the United States has been lifted. Asylum seekers who registered under the old regulation will not be subjected to deportation to Mexico.
