Amazon CEO and multi-billionaire Jeff Bezos picked 16 environmental organizations that will collectively get $791 million as part of his personal $10 billion climate action fund he created earlier this year.
“I’ve spent the past several months learning from a group of incredibly smart people who’ve made it their life’s work to fight climate change and its impact on communities around the world,” says the businessman. “I’m inspired by what they’re doing, and excited to help them scale.”
The Bezos Earth Fund is ten times as much as philanthropic foundations gave as a whole in 2018 to slow climate change. For his first round of personal funding, Bezos selected organizations with an established history of advocacy on behalf of the planet. As for Amazon’s $2 million climate fund, it will focus on getting more electric vehicles on the road and capturing carbon dioxide emissions.
