Car Rental Giant’s Plans to Go All-Electric Kick-Off (with 100,000 Teslas!)

One of America’s largest rental car companies is doing its part in the fight against climate change by electrifying its fleet – with some 100,000 Teslas.

“Electric vehicles are now mainstream, and we’ve only just begun to see rising global demand and interest,” says Hertz’s interim CEO Mark Fields. “The new Hertz is going to lead the way as a mobility company, starting with the largest EV rental fleet in North America and a commitment to grow our EV fleet and provide the best rental and recharging experience for leisure and business customers around the world.”

As part of its ambitious plan to electrify its entire fleet – 500,000  cars and vans – Hertz will first have Tesla’s Model 3 sedans available to rent across the United States and the European markets. Hertz’s order is the largest one ever for electric vehicles and is worth $4.2 billion. For now, people who rent Teslas through Hertz will be able to use one of the 3,000 superchargers the automaker has across its network, and the rental car company plans on supplementing thousands of its own chargers.
