Health The WorldHistoric Rise in Financing Health Worldwide
As a profound vote of confidence in the World Health Organization’s mission, its Member States have agreed to a 20% increase in their membership dues as they endorsed WHO’s 2026/27 budget of $4.2 billion.
In 2022, WHO Member States vowed to increase their assessed contributions to represent 50% of WHO’s core budget by the 2030-31 cycle, and the latest yearly increase is part of this long-term commitment.
It is the second consecutive 20% increase in membership dues or assessed contributions in the 2024/25 budget. Through sufficient funding, the WHO can carry out long-term projects and support its global operations to promote health security and resilience worldwide. The 2026/27 budget is the first fully developed based on WHO’s Fourteenth General Programme of Work, 2025-28 (GPW 14), the organization’s global health strategy for the next four years.
