Soon, Only Green Cars Will Ride in the Empire State

With its new law demanding that all new passenger vehicles be emission-free by 2035, the American state of New York adopts strong measures to tackle climate change and its consequences.

“New York is implementing the nation’s most aggressive plan to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions affecting our climate and to reach our ambitious goals, we must reduce emissions from the transportation sector, currently the largest source of the state’s climate pollution,” says Kathy Hochul, New York Governor.

As part of the newly-signed law, New York follows in the footsteps of California by phasing out greenhouse gas emissions in cars and light trucks by 2035, and in medium and heavy-duty ones by 2045, but also by creating a detailed plan for the development of zero-emissions vehicle as soon as 2023. New York’s efforts come within the scope of the Biden administration to cut emissions in half by 2030 and reaching net-zero by 2050.
