Homicide Rates Reach Historical Low Here

In 2022, the number of homicides in Brazil reached the lowest rate since data collection began back in 2007.

According to experts, the drop in homicide rates can be contributed to changes in public policies, greater resources available to the public security sector, changes in the dynamics of criminal groups, and changes in the demographics of the population, among others. 2022 marks the second year in a row that the murder rate in Brazil has dropped.

In 2007, the Brazilian Public Security Forum was established to collect and analyze the data. For the following few years, homicide rates either remained relatively the same or increased; however, since 2018, data suggests that over 18,000 deaths have been reduced in the country per year.
