Investing Big, to Protect Wetlands and Birds

Thanks to massive funding, some 37,000 hectares of wetland will be conserved or restored across 17 American states, helping preserve the habitat of millions of migratory birds.

“Investing in wetland conservation is an investment in the health of our environment and our economy,” states United States Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland. “These grants will preserve essential habitats for migratory birds and boost local economies through enhanced recreational opportunities.”

The Migratory Bird Conservation Commission has approved more than $46.2 million in grants made through the North American Wetlands Conservation Act, and these grants will be matched by more than $99.1 million in partner funds. An additional $11.7 million was approved to conserve habitat on seven national wildlife refuges across seven states – Idaho, Illinois, Maryland, Missouri, Mississippi, Texas, and Virginia – to expand public opportunities for hunting, fishing, wildlife observation, and outdoor recreational access.
